Bermuda grass is a tough grass when it comes to controlling or killing. The upper (stolons) and underneath (rhizomes) part of grass is capable of re-growth, in moist climate. This is the reason that Bermuda grass really grows fast and wild.
Destroying / Controlling of Bermuda grass
Control water input –
This grass cannot survive without moisture. Dry out the ground. It is important that the root of the grass also rots, otherwise it will re-grow.
Till the land
Till the land few inches deep, so that all the rhizomes of grass are uprooted and come to the surface to dry completely. Take care that during this process, no moisture comes in contact of Bermuda grass.
Increasing shade
An important pre-requisite for Bermuda grass is temperature. Now if you shade the land, especially with tall trees. Temperature underneath falls immediately, leading to decay of grass. Cover the grass with black polythene to cut temperature.
These are the natural means to kill Bermuda grass. If you want speedy solution then chemicals can be used, but they will also harm the soil. |
